Samantha Caine, suburban homemaker, is the ideal mom to her 8 year old daughter Caitlin. She lives in Honesdale, PA, has a job teaching school and makes the best Rice Krispie treats in town. But when she receives a bump on her head, she begins to remember small parts of her previous life as a lethal, top-secret agent. Her old chums in the Chapter are now out to kill her so she enlists the help of a cheap detective named Mitch. As Samantha remembers more and more of her previous life, she becomes deadlier and more resourceful. Both Mitch and Charly proceed to do the killing thing, the bleeding thing and the shooting thing. A woman suffering from amnesia begins to recover her memories after trouble from her past finds her again. I just watched the movie again last night, and enjoyed it as much as the first time I saw it. I especially enjoy the soundtrack, which sadly is incomplete on line, regardless of how much research I've done.<br/><br/>When Gina Davis is sitting on the rock near the end, and throws a knife to kill the cricket, an alternative song with a female vocalist kicks in prior to the credits.<br/><br/>IF in fact the songs are listed as they appeared in the in the credits, one would believe it's a Tracy Bonham Song. Her first album was released in 1996, same year as this film, but no search turned up a song by her that matches the one in the movie.<br/><br/>Any help? mhh1964usa@yahoo.com<br/><br/>Thanks I have seen this film probably a dozen times since it was originally released theatrically. Anyone who calls this movie trash or horrible just doesn't understand action films or recognize a good one. Perhaps to some the incidents and outcomes may seem far fetched, but in my opinion screenwriter Shane Black ( Lethal Weapon/ Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) crafted one of the most well thought out action adventures you will ever come across. Over the top or not this film flows like clockwork and the action just keeps coming. The final action sequence is one of the best I have ever seen in any film. The cast in this film crackles. Genna Davis gave a tremendous performance and its a damn shame there was never a "LKG" sequel. Samuel L. Jackson is hilarious as her sidekick Mitch a down on his luck private eye trying to help her discover her lost past and make a few bucks. If Baffles me how anyone could not like this film. It packs so many thrills and its so funny. The wisecracks in this film still make me laugh just as hard 10 years later. In my mind the first Matrix film and the Long Kiss Goodnight were easily 2 of the best and most original action flicks of the 90's. Incidentally Shane Black made a fortune when he sold this script. At the time it was the highest selling screenplay and its worth every penny. It's so sad that audiences never gave this movie a chance, cause they would have witnessed Renny Harlins best film and Genna Davis like you have never seen her before. Long live "The Long Kiss Goodnight"!! A "nonstop thriller" that is also a nonstop dud. Underline the word "long" in the title. The Long Kiss Goodnight was filmed from a script by American screenwriter Shane Black. The "long kiss goodnight" is a euphemism for death. In the opening narration, when Samantha (<a href="/name/nm0000133/">Geena Davis</a>) is explaining that the only thing she knows about her former self is a name, Charlene, she says that she has kissed Charlene goodnight. "Focal retrograde amnesia", a type of amnesia where memory for past events and personal information is lost, while the ability to remember new events is spared. Filming took place at multiple locations in the province of Ontario, Canada, e.g., Collingwood, Milton, Hamilton, Markham, Uxbridge, Toronto, and Niagara Falls. Some scenes were filmed at the Windemere House, a resort in Muskoka, Ontario, but when the resort burned down during the filming, they reshot the scenes at another resort, Milford Manor in Milton (Daedalus' hideout). The beginning scenes were shot in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. Other filming locations in the U.S. included Atlantic City in New Jersey, the Chicago Pier, and Linnwood, Washington. It was a CIA plan to detonate a chemical bomb in downtown Niagara Falls on Christmas Eve, killing 4,000 civilians and then blaming Islamic terrorists in order to increase their funding and powers. As Timothy (<a href="/name/nm0081572/">Craig Bierko</a>) is locking Samantha/Charlene/Charly and her daughter Caitlin (<a href="/name/nm0956531/">Yvonne Zima</a>) in the freezer, Charly reveals that he is Caitlin's father. Nathan Waldman (<a href="/name/nm0004051/">Brian Cox</a>) was drowned at the mill, in the same "torture thingy" that Daedalus (<a href="/name/nm0001556/">David Morse</a>) was using on Samantha/Charley. She unties herself and gets the pistol from his pants while they're both under water.Charly saves the town from the bomb, saves Caitlin, and they both survive the explosion. Hennesey (<a href="/name/nm0000168/">Samuel L. Jackson</a>) becomes famous for his role in saving the town, goes on the Larry King Show, and is seen by his son and wife, her jaw dropped about a foot-and-a-half. The president asks Charly to return to governmental duty, but she refuses and goes back to being just Sam. In the final scene, however, she can't help from throwing a knife into a log where a cricket was chirping too loudly. One movie recommended by viewers who have seen The Long Kiss Goodnight is <a href="/title/tt0258463/">The Bourne Identity (2002)</a> (2002), in which an amnesic who was pulled out of the water with bullets in his back searches for clues to his identity. His story is continued in two sequels, <a href="/title/tt0372183/">The Bourne Supremacy (2004)</a> (2004) and <a href="/title/tt0440963/">The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)</a> (2007).
